Epworth Preschool-

Safety is our First Priority:

-Every staff member is required to go through fingerprinting and background checks.  All staff are all CPR and FIRST AID TRAINED for adults and children.

*Access to the Education Wing:

-The Preschool doors are locked at 9:15 each morning. The only access into the Education Wing is with a security code or a key.  If a parent /guardian needs to enter  during preschool hours they must ring a bell and a staff member will let them in.   The doors are open at noon and 3:00pm for pick up.

*Releasing a child to other adults:

-Before a child can attend our school, a parent/guardian must fill out an emergency form stating who their child can be released  to.  If a name is not on the form, we cannot release a child without written or verbal permission from the parent/guardian.

We use praise and encouragement to reinforce positive behavior, self-control and cooperation.  If a child is disruptive in the classroom, we use distraction and discussion to try to remedy the situation.  If the child continues to be disruptive, we will remove the child from the classroom and take him/her to the Director’s office.  If a child causes repeated,  intentional harm to others, the parents will be called in for a conference.  As a last resort, a child may have to be removed from  our program if the situation cannot be resolved.  Parents also need to understand that when children are sharing a classroom, there will inevitably be occasional bumps and bruises caused by unintentional occurrences.  An “ouch report” will be sent home if your child is injured during the school day.

Each family will receive a tuition booklet in the beginning of the school year, with a page for each month’s payment attached.  Turn each page in with your payment and it will be your receipt for your records.  Tuition is due on your child’s first school day each month.  A late fee of $15.00 will be charged if the tuition is not paid by the 10th of each month.  A family may pay tuition in full, although there will not be a discount for doing so.

Checks should be made out to “Epworth Preschool.”

Classes meet from 9:00 am-noon and 9:00-3:00pm.  It is important to be on time in the mornings, as free play is very important for the children.  If you know you are going to be late picking up please call the preschool office-227-7120-so we can make arrangements to stay with your child until you arrive.

If your child is going to be absent, please call the office to let us know.

Parent Involvement:

Parents are always welcome to observe their child in the classroom setting.  We ask that you call ahead of time so we can arrange the best time for your visit.

Parents can participate in field trips during the school year. Also, during our Community Helper Unit, we invite parents to come in to discuss their profession with the classes.

A child should be free of the following symptoms prior to being sent to school:

*Temperature of 99.6 degrees or higher-a child should be fever free for 24   hours before returning to school.

      *Severe cold/sneezing/persistent cough

*Stomach pain or vomiting within the last 12 hours

      *Signs of listlessness or headache

*Undiagnosed skin eruptions or rash

*If a child becomes ill at school, we will notify the parent/guardian to pick him/her up as soon as possible.

*Parents will be notified of any communicable diseases.  Notify the director if you child has a contagious condition.

Inclement Weather:

*The Preschool generally follows the Cape Henlopen School District, as far as closings and delayed openings.   Follow us on Facebook or go to our website at preschool.eumcrb.org

*FOG:  If the Cape Henlopen School District is delayed due to fog, the preschool will open at 10:00 am, regardless of whether the delay is one or two hours.

ICE/SNOW:  If the Cape Henlopen School District is delayed or closed due to ice or snow, the preschool will be closed.

IF the Cape Henlopen School District is closed due to dangerous/inclement weather the preschool will be closed.

*If the Cape Henlopen School District is delayed due to dangerous/inclement weather, the preschool will open at 10:00 am, regardless of whether the delay is one or two hours.

Epworth Preschool will not be listed separately on WBOC or WMDT so follow the Cape Henlopen Listing.  We will also announce our delay/closing on our facebook page and this website.

Clothing and Possesions:

Comfortable, washable clothes work best for your child’s time at preschool.  Children should dress in weather-appropriate clothing since the classes go outside daily, weather permitting.

Loose sandals, crocs, cowboy boots and flip flops limit a child’s ability to play on the playground and run around freely.  Close toed shoes work best.

Toy guns, other “weapons”, gum, candy, money, bottles and pacifiers are not allowed in the preschool.

*A monthly newsletter and calendar will be sent home by your child’s teacher

*A master list of ALL In service days/Holidays/Closings/Special events will be sent home in the beginning of the school year.

*A daily activity slip, stating what your child did during the school day, will be sent home everyday.

*Parent/Teacher Conferences are held two times a year.  If you would like to schedule a conference prior to the scheduled time, contact your child’s teacher or the director and we will make arrangements to meet and discuss any questions or concerns.

*Join us on facebook for weekly notifications of special activities or events. Pictures of the children will also be posted on a regular basis.
